Fishtail Friday ;)

This isn't going to be a recurring post, of course!  I have never known how to do a fishtail braid, and I saw an easy tutorial on Pinterest here.  If you actually go to the link, she shows you how she put yarn in her braid later and it turned out really cute.

Here is my attempt at a fishtail.

I think it turned out well, and it stayed in pretty well too.  I think it would be a lot cuter if my hair was longer!! I'll keep trying it! :)

Thankful Thursday

Today (which is actually Tuesday) I'm thankful for this awesome rice heating pad I made a couple years ago!
It is always freezing in our apartment (because we're holding out a little longer to turn on the heat).  It is really getting a workout this year.  I heat it up about once and hour and sit with it over my blanket on my lap to keep me warm!  It actually works quite well!  Occasionally Derrick takes it away too when he has a sore muscle since that's what its real purpose is!  I have been contemplating making him one of his very own so that I don't have to share anymore! :)

I'm also thankful that Derrick found a place to hunt.  I think the resentment level for moving him to Indiana is down a couple notches now ;)

A couple days ago we went out and set up his blind.  One of the ladies that he works with owns the property, and it's just about 15 miles away.

Derrick is making room for his trusty blind.

And there she is all covered in trees and leaves.  Hopefully the deer don't see him!  I would also be very thankful if he could just get one soon!  I get a little nervous every time he goes out there!  And we plan on actually keeping the meat this time if he gets one! :)  Yay!

Last on the list for thankfulness this week is water.  Yep, that's right.  I've been really trying to drink more water this week.  At least 8 big glasses of water compared to my less than 1 that is my usual.  I can already tell I'm feeling better. :)

Tutorial Tuesday - Gripper socks

For this week's Tutorial Tuesday, I'm going to show you how I made some slick baby socks into gripper baby socks for Miles!! :)

All you need to make these socks are a pair (or two) or baby socks and some puff paint.

Then you just decide what kind of design you want to do on them, and start painting away!!

These were fun and they didn't take too long.  It was nice to do a project where the gratification didn't take so long to accomplish!

If you decide to make some gripper socks, I would love to see them or hear about it!! :)

Have a great Tuesday!

Social Saturday

Time to catch you up on what we've been up to.  This week Derrick started his new (second) part-time job at Target along with T.J.  It's been nice that they started at the same time, and they work the same hours which is typically Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 5:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m.  Also new this week, Kaylan and I have started a new workout schedule.  We're determined to stay on it because we do have a wedding coming up!  The tricky part is not knowing when we're going during the day until the day before so that we can make it work with both of our work schedules.  So far, so good.

I feel like we don't have too much to update you on because this week has been a little crazy with Derrick's new work schedule and my work too.  Thursday we made a trip to Gander Mountain with the McCords to look at hunting stuff.  Derrick has found a place to hunt here, and T.J. is considering joining him.  And last night we just hung out at home and watched a couple movies.  Today is a day FULL of work for both of us!  I need to get caught up, and Derrick is working 12 hours today.  Don't worry though, I've baked him some cookies for when he gets home!

On another good note, tomorrow is T.J.'s birthday!  We're going to celebrate by meeting up for lunch and hanging out!  We will be watching Miles overnight tomorrow night too! :)  He's is killing me these days!  Though he has a zillion tricks these days, some new ones are "Touchdown."  You say touchdown, and he throws his hands in the air for touchdown!  He also does "cheeeeese!"  It's the cutest, scrunchy-faced smile :)  And last night we taught him to do "who who who who who..." while doing one fist in the air.  Yes, it is pretty hilarious!

Wedding Wednesday - Engagement Pictures

I've been meaning to post something about the pictures that we took a couple weekends ago for Derrick and my engagement pictures.  Here is a picture on the drive down to Brown County, where we took the pictures.

Then here are a couple of outtakes that probably won't make the save the dates :)

Derrick is frown kissing me here.  Not a fan of engagement pictures, and this was only the third one!
Darn boots anyways!  One is shorter than the other :)
And this one is good, but I think we have some better ones!

We are still planning to do one more session with the wonderful Kaylan McCord Photography! ;)  She's been a champ taking our pictures and been quite the visionary!  I'll keep you posted! :)

Also on the wedding front, I WILL be finishing our invitations this week...FINALLY!  Yes, the wedding is still 9 months away and 6-7 months before invites will be sent, but I started these a long time ago and I can't wait to get them finished and put away!

New blogging regimen

So I'm really going to try to be better about blogging.  And I'm sorry for always saying that!  I have come up with a "schedule" to give me something to try to blog about each day.

It looks something like this:
Mouthwatering Monday, blog about a new recipe we have tried.
Tutorial Tuesday, blog about a new project I have done or am working on.
Wordless Wednesday, no words needed ;) or Wedding Wednesday if I have an update.
Thankful Thursday, things I am thankful at that moment on Thursday.
______ Friday, - I'm still working on this one!!  Any ideas would be much appreaciated!
Social Saturday, updates about what we've been doing all week.
______ Sunday, I'm still working on this one too.  Again, any ideas?!!

So I don't always plan on blogging each day on each topic, but at least this will give me somthing to blog about and something to shoot for.

I don't have a tutorial to share with you a the moment, but I plan on starting a new project this week, so I'll have one for you next Tuesday!

Have a great week!

Check this stud out!

Who did you think I was talking about???! :)

He's getting so big!  "I'm just standing here, all by myself, drinking my milk..."  Oh, the life of a one year old! :)

New happenings

Just a quick little update. I forgot to upload my pictures after Kaylan and I made our crafts with our half-off Goodwill finds. We picked up some sweaters to make upcycled scarflettes! I think they turned out so cute!

If you want to see Kaylan's, you can go here.

Next up on the update is that I found a rockin' grey hair in my hair a couple days ago. And, yes, I did take a picture of it for your viewing pleasure!

I'll swallow my pride and say this is not the first one I've found. Let's just hope this progress slows down a little!!

And last but not least, I got my eyebrows threaded for the first time tonight. I met some girls at the office tonight to do some RMR practice, and a few of us went to get a drink after at Champps in the mall. After, Kaylan wanted to get hers done, so I decided to give it a try. I'm telling you, you should give up waxing! It was quite a bit more painful, but totally worth it.

So I just attempted to take a picture to show you my newly groomed brows, but they were all a little scary so you'll have to take my word for it!

That's all I can think of for now. We have some family coming for the weekend, so I'm sure I'll have lots to blog about next week.

I hope you're all having a great week!

Halloween Decorations and TV

Yesterday I spent more than 5 hours cleaning our apartment! Before you accuse me of being a gross housekeeper, I'll tell you it was the crazy kind of 'spring' cleaning! Our apartment is super clean now! Yes!

Today I decided to get out my Halloween decorations. My favorite are these guys I made last year!

They sure make the place festive!

On a side note, today I was working away when I got a very surprising phone call. Remember last Saturday when we 'checked out' Quaker Days here? Well, we happened to sign up for some drawings and guess who is the new owner of a brand new TV??!

ME!!!!!

What a great start to my week! Hopefully Derrick and I can get it set up tonight! Yay!!

Half-off Saturday at Goodwill!!!

Kaylan and I were at Goodwill this morning when it opened! We found a few great things this time. I found an awesome 5-set of tv trays from Target that were in great condition for only $10! I can go ahead and check that off our things-to-put-on-the-registry list!! Yay!! (Target donates all of their out-of-season merchandise to the local Goodwills!) And I also found a medium size crock pot! I'm still on the hunt for a big one, but this will do for now! I got a few other small things but will update you on those later.

Kaylan got some good things as well like Miles' big boy bedding also brand new from Target for less than $20!! Whew! It was a good day of thrift shopping.

After our shopping we went and picked up all the boys and checked out Plainfield's Quaker Festival. They had a car show for the guys and Kaylan and I checked out all the booths and craft vendors!

Now we're back home and preparing for a productive craft day. Stay tuned!!
